On July 8, the 2012 Rock/Creek StumpJump 50k reached capacity at 500 runners. Selling out 90 days before race day is unprecedented for this event, and many prospective runners were caught off-guard — as were we. Sponsors, team runners and other elite athletes will raise the total to about 560. As you might expect, this already represents a significant increase from last year’s 450 entrants.
However, in response to the overwhelming demand and very early sellout, we’ve decided to create 40 “charity spots,” thus increasing capacity of the 50k to 600. If you missed out on registering for the 50k, you have two options remaining:
1. Charity spots.
At 12:00 noon on Friday, July 27, we will make 40 charity spots open to the public, offering a guaranteed spot in the StumpJump 50k in exchange for a $150 donation to Wild Trails. Wild Trails is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to trail-building and maintenance initiatives in the Chattanooga area.
These charity entries are first-come, first-served and we expect them to fill quickly. This opportunity will end on September 15, 2012, or when we reach the 40-runner limit, whichever comes first.
Registration will take place at: http://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?eid=3407
2. Waiting list. Our waiting list has been active since the 50k first reached capacity, and this list will remain open. When previously-registered runners notify us that they will not be able to run in this event, whatever the reason, we will make that spot available for re-sale to the next runner in line. Those already on the waiting list may purchase a charity spot, at which point we will remove you from the waiting list.
Please note: we still cannot accommodate transfers or refunds of your registration. If you are unable to participate and don’t want your spot to go to waste, let us know immediately so we can add a runner from the list!
You may register for the waiting list at: http://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=14802
The StumpJump 50k is already the largest and most competitive trail 50k in the Southeast. While we have increased the race capacity each year, it’s important that we do so incrementally, in order to prevent over-taxing our network of volunteers — or the race course itself! We appreciate your understanding of the challenges that come with an event of this magnitude, and look forward to seeing you on race day.

Hello! Quick question.
I am currently on the waiting list for the 11 miler. Is the 11 miler 100% capped; NO MORE waiting listers considered? OR, do I still have a fighting chance? My fingers are crossed!!! I’m hoping you guys have just been holding out for one last Nashville gal to register
Have a great afternoon,

Nope, we’re still taking people off of the waiting list! It won’t be as many as the 50k, simply because fewer folks drop from the shorter distances and fewer are signed up in the first place. But there is hope, depending on how far down the list you are!

Is it possible to move from the 50K to the 11 miler? I had an injury, which has healed, but I am not sure if I will be ready for the 50K. I am working towards it but may move to the 11, if it is possible.

Joshua, I’m not sure if that’s possible or not. Email our race director, Randy Whorton, at [email protected]

Where do you register for the waitlist for the 11 mile run? When I click on waitlist open it does not take you to a place to register it just says FULL.
Thank you.
